Kodituwakku said that since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China's economic development has been unbelievably rapid. It has also attached great importance to distributing wealth among its people, in particular addressing the poverty issue. "Today, less than 5 percent of China's population live in poverty. This is the most remarkable thing I have known," he pointed out.

"As well as trying to develop itself, China is trying to develop the Belt and Road Initiative, and to help the rest of the world, including Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Asia..." he continued, "Sharing its prosperity with the rest of the world is a big challenge, because there is so much diversity."

"I hope that the Belt and Road will be a great success, and that its success will bring more prosperity to the world," he added.
