The Molecular Plant, an international English journal established by Chinese academies, remained popular among 228 of the world's leading plant science journals in the latest Science Citation Index (SCI), the People's Daily reported Monday.

With an impact factor of 10.812, the journal ranked fourth in the field of plant biology and held onto the second spot for research.

It has ranked first among all Asian plant science SCI journals for eight consecutive years, said the newspaper.

Established in Shanghai in 2008 and sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Society of Plant Biology, the journal is dedicated to serving the plant science community by publishing novel and exciting findings in plant biology. It has an international editorial board of more than 100 scientists.

According to the newspaper, editors of the Molecular Plant have announced the launch of a sister publication Plant Communications, which will be published in January 2020.

On June 21, the new journal's review system, website and paper publishing platform were officially opened to accept articles.
