Accurate weather forecast to serve 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics

China will conduct enhanced weather research and forecasting to support the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The accurate and reliable prediction of temperature, humidity, visibility and extreme wind will be important to ensure the running of the sport events and athlete performances.

The meteorological monitoring, as well as early warning and forecasting during the games, is required to be highly precise.

To serve the games, the meteorological departments will build 3D small-scale observation and data analysis systems, and construct accurate 3D meteorological field models for mountain sports.

The project for meteorological forecasting of the Beijing Winter Olympics is led by Beijing Institute of Urban Meteorology, and jointly conducted by the Hebei Province Meteorological Bureau, National Meteorological Center, Beijing Meteorological Service and China Meteorological Administration Public Meteorological Service Center.

They will develop fast updates for winter sports on complex terrain.
