Global Solicitation and Challenge Prize on Best Poverty Reduction Practices drives the establishment of a new type of poverty alleviation partnership, Zhang Guangping, the deputy director general of International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), said at a conference held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 21.

Zhang Guangping said that the campaign has received positive response from international community after its launch in May last year in Beijing by seven organizations, including IPRCC, World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), World Food Programme (WFP) and China Internet Information Center (CIIC).

Zhang Guangping, the deputy director general of International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC), makes a speech at a side event.

According to Zhang, as of January 21, 2019, the working group had received 805 poverty reduction case studies in total. Government agencies at all levels, enterprises and individuals in China submitted 630 case studies and international organizations contributed 175 from over 20 countries.

"Over 100 outstanding case studies were selected after three review meetings," Zhangsaid, "We plan to issue the e-version of case studies at the Seminar on Global Partnerships for Poverty Reduction to be held in Italy in May this year. The paper version is expected to be published at China Poverty Reduction International Forum in Beijing in mid-October."

Zhang believed that case study is an effective way to summarize and share practical experience in poverty reduction in the world. "Poverty reduction case studies will advance knowledge sharing and promote South-South Cooperation," said her.

Zhang noted that effective exchange required extensive international participation and cooperation. IPRCC and CIIC have established solid partnerships with many international institutions, including the WB,FAO, IFAD, WFP, and ADB.

The seven organizations jointly hold China Poverty Reduction International Forum and the Seminar on Global Partnerships for Poverty Reduction every year, expand cooperation in poverty reduction policy research under the framework of South-South Cooperation, and strengthen exchange and sharing of poverty reduction knowledge.

"To make poverty alleviation knowledge effective, practical and accessible, the working group will upload these case studies to the Global Poverty Reduction Online Knowledge Sharing Database on different categories." said Zhang.

Zhang emphasized that China is willing to make full use of Global Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Growth Portal to share poverty alleviation experiences and approaches.

"We will jointly establish a more open and efficient platform for international exchange and cooperation with the international community, which focuses on  development and poverty reduction in the world to realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." Zhang said.

The conference was a side event of the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation, with the theme of “South-South Cooperation for agricultural development, local experiences and global partnership for SDGs.”

It was organized by Belt and Road Initiative & South-South Cooperation Agricultural Education, Science and Technology Innovation League, China Agricultural University and Buenos Aires University.
