Macao records over 35 mln visitor arrivals in 2018

Visitor arrivals in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) made a record of 35.80 million in 2018, up by 9.8 percent year-on-year, the SAR's statistics service said on Wednesday. Visitor arrivals in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) made a record of 35.80 million in 2018, up by 9.8 percent year-on-year, the SAR's statistics service said on Wednesday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that in 2018 the overnight visitors (18.49 million) and same-day visitors (17.31 million) grew by 7.2 percent and 12.7 percent respectively.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland (25.26 million) and the Hong Kong SAR (6.3 million) increased by 13.8 percent and 2.6 percent respectively. Visitors from South Korea (812,842) saw a decrease of 7.0 percent. Visitors from the United States (201,810), Australia (90,914) and Britain (58,319) recorded year-on-year growth, while the number of those from Canada (74,268) held steady.

Visitor arrivals by land surged by 18.9 percent year-on-year to 22.15 million in 2018, with 1.05 million of them entering the Macao SAR via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Visitor arrivals by air increased by 20.1 percent year-on-year to 3.30 million. Meanwhile, visitor arrivals by sea decreased by 7.8 percent to 10.36 million.
