Chinese shares close lower Thursday - Xinhua | English.news.cn

Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.68 percent at 2,605.17 points and the Shenzhen Component Index closing 2.44 percent lower at 7,735.05 points.

The combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 310.9 billion yuan (about 45.32 billion U.S. dollars), down from 322.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most shares lost, with losers outnumbering gainers 1,237 to 177 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,803 to 268 on the Shenzhen bourse.

Medical device sector and biopharmaceutical sector lost the most. Lepu Medical Technology (Beijing) declined by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 29.87 yuan per share, while Apeloa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. lost 9.95 percent to close at 8.24 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.61 percent to close at 1,345.76 points.
