SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- Four paramilitary troopers, a policeman and a civilian were wounded Friday after militants carried out a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade was hurled at a contingent of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police in Khanabal area of Anantnag district, about 50 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. (India-Kashmir-Attack )

GENEVA -- Human traffickers in Libya reportedly killed more than a dozen people and wounded many others after some 200 Eritrean, Ethiopians, and Somalis -- held captive -- attempted to escape, the UN refugee agency UNHCR said Friday.

"According to the survivors, people were shot while trying to escape and during attempts to recapture them," UNHCR spokesperson William Spindler said at a UN briefing here. (UN-trafficker-killing)

KATHMANDU -- Twelve people died and 15 others were injured when a passenger bus met an accident at Rambha area of Palpa district in western Nepal, some 350 km east of the capital, a senior police official said here.

District Police Chief Dilliraj Pant told the media that the passenger bus carrying 27 people veered off at Rambha area in the district, and fell some 200 meters down the road when it was en route to Rampur area from Tansen. (Nepal-Accident-Bus)

KAMPALA -- Uganda has deported 46 Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) fishermen who were arrested over suspected links with a militia group that captured six Ugandans last month, said a military spokesman on Friday.

Brig. Richard Karemire told Xinhua that the Congolese fishermen have been handed to the DRC authorities at the common border town of Kasese late on Thursday. (Germany-China-Visit)

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan -- Scores of Taliban militants have been killed or injured as locals staged uprising against Taliban in Kuran-o-Munjan district of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province on Friday, provincial police spokesman Sanaullah Ruhani said.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Five people were killed and three others wounded following a deadly traffic accident in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Friday, Mohammadullah, a traffic police official said.

The accident happened early Friday morning in Daman district of the province, when a car collided with a head-on passenger bus, resulting in the death of five passengers on the spot and injury of three others, the official added. (Afghanistan-Accident-Collision) Enditem
