Taliban ambush kills police commander, bodyguard in N. Afghanistan

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 1 (Xinhua) -- A commander of local police and his bodyguard were killed in Taliban ambush against police in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province on Friday, provincial police spokesman Sunatullah Timuri has confirmed.

According to the official, a local police commander, Azizullah, was going on duty when the Taliban militants laid out ambush in Charkhab Shinwari area outside provincial capital Kunduz city Friday morning, killing him and one of his bodyguards on the spot.

Another bodyguard sustained injuries in the attack and the militants made their good escape, the official asserted.

Kunduz has been the scene of Taliban-led insurgency over the past decade. Enditem
