Feature: First full-automatic railway scanner to enhance Estonian customs capacity

NARVA, Estonia, May 31 (Xinhua) -- For 31-year-old Elar Roostlane, the delivery ceremony of Estonia Narva Railway Scanner on Thursday reminded him of his seven-year experience with one of the world's top providers of security scanning equipment.

"I have learnt a lot from the Chinese during these years," Roostlane said, hailing his company Nuctech's "amazing technology, quality of the highest level" and the competitive 10-year equipment warranty.

Roostlane works for Nuctech Warsaw, owned by the Chinese Nuctech, a security inspection product manufacturer and security solutions supplier specializing in own-brand radiation imaging equipment.

"It has been almost two years since I worked full-time for Nuctech," he said, "I travelled to China for training, and found how developed Beijing is today."

The praise for Nuctech quality was echoed by Valdur Laid, director general of Estonian Tax and Customs Board in his speech at the delivery ceremony held at the Estonian-Russian railway border.

"I'm sure the investment will ensure the security of the Estonian eastern border," said Laid, who told Xinhua "this has been a very important investment for us, and it's the largest investment we have made in the customs area in general to date into the scanning equipment."

"As big projects always have some difficulties, some challenges, but right now we are happy with the fact that we have finalized the project, and will sign the final report today and close the deal," he noted.

The delivery of the full-automatic Narva Railway Scanner, designed in China and made in Poland, concluded the supply contract of five sets of security scanning equipment, signed between Nuctech and the Estonian Tax and Customs Board in 2016.

Voldemar Linno, head of the Eastern Center of Customs Department, said that he expects the volume of goods at Narva customs checkpoint to increase as the railway scanner will enhance customs capacity.

Li Chao, Chinese ambassador to Estonia, appreciated the good cooperation between the two sides, expecting the high-end equipment with Chinese scientific and technical wisdom to facilitate the merchandise customs clearance and enhance efficiency in Estonia.

Bian Xiaohao, general manager of Nuctech Warsaw Company Limited, said Nuctech Warsaw aims to provide more innovative, competitive products and safety solutions, and make more contributions to Estonia's national border security.

Around 40 participants including Sven Suurraid, head of Customs Department of Estonian Tax and Customs Board, and Wu Yan, Chinese economic and commercial counsellor in Estonia, were also present at the delivery ceremony.

Narva, the third largest in Estonia with a population of about 57,000 , is located at the extreme eastern point of Estonia on the Narva River, bordering Russia. Enditem
