German shares lose 1.40 pct Thursday

FRANKFURT, May 31 (Xinhua) -- German shares lost on Thursday, with the benchmark DAX index down 178.87 points, or 1.40 percent, to close at 12,604.89 points.

Deutsche Bank lost the most among the blue chips, down by 6.77 percent, followed by Deutsche Post and automotive manufacturer Volkswagen, which lost 2.75 percent and 2.64 percent respectively.

Marketplace organizer for the trading of shares and securities Deutsche Boerse group, material manufacturer Covestro and multinational building materials company HeidelbergCement were the top three winners, rising 1.10 percent, 1.06 percent and 0.34 percent respectively.

Automotive manufacturer Daimler was the most traded share of the day, with a turnover of 612.82 million euros (712.83 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
