KIEV, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian activists on Thursday announced the launch of an ecological project "Trees-for-Books," which envisages planting a tree in the Carpathian Mountains for every book sold at the 8th international book festival Book Arsenal in Kiev.

"Our goal is to plant 50,000 trees. It is an estimated number of people who will visit the Book Arsenal," Tetyana Maksymova, the coordinator of the project, told reporters.

According to her, the aim of the "Trees-for-Books" initiative is to contribute to reviving the ancient forests in the Carpathian Mountains, which were affected by human activities.

The Book Arsenal festival kicked off in the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday, attracting some 200 Ukrainian writers and 100 literary professionals from 31 countries. The festival runs till Sunday. Enditem
