China to launch circuit inspection on prisons

Xinhua,May 31, 2018 Adjust font size:

BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- China's procurators will start a one-year-long pilot project of circuit inspection on prisons in eight provincial-level regions from June, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) Thursday.

Wang Songmiao, spokesperson for the SPP, said at a press conference in Beijing that this is an important reform in China's prison inspection method.

The procurators will inspect the prisons' enforcement of laws and regulations including the Criminal Procedure Law and Prison Law, and whether the execution of punishment and supervision and education of prisoners are conducted according to law.

During the circuit inspection, the procurators will not be made to supervise certain prisons and can conduct cross and spot checks on prisons.

The pilot program will be launched in Shanghai, Shanxi, Liaoning, Shandong, Hubei, Hainan, Sichuan, and Ningxia. Enditem
