HO CHI MINH CITY, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Some 80 Himalayan thangka paintings will be showcased at an exhibition on June 2-3 in Hanoi capital and on June 9-10 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The expo will see the participation of some of the most talented thangka artists, including Shrestha Bibek, a leading artist at Images of Enlightenment, one of the most prestigious art schools in Nepal, where large thangka paintings for Nepali and Tibetan monasteries are made, Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday.

Thangkas are composite objects produced by painters and tailors with different intents, skills and training. A thangka is a three-dimensional object consisting of a picture panel, which is painted or embroidered; a textile mounting; and one or more of the following: a silk cover, leather corners, wooden dowels at the top and bottom and metal or wooden decorative knobs on the bottom dowel.
