Xinhua,May 31, 2018 Adjust font size:

TEHRAN, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Strong wind, coupled with thick dust and rain, swept across Iran's capital Tehran on Wednesday evening, halting flights in Imam Khomeini Airport and Mehrabad Airport.

The flights bound for Tehran were also ordered to return.

Meanwhile, power posts and residential districts were damaged in the severe wind, which has blown for half an hour before the dusk.

Power supply in some parts of the capital was cut off because of the wind.

People on the streets were seen hurrying to shelters for fear of being hit by fallen objects.

No casualties have been reported.

According to official IRNA news agency, Karaj, a northern city 45 km west of Tehran, was also hit by strong wind of 70 km per hour, which cut the electricity lines in some parts of the city. Enditem
