CHENGDU, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Foreign military attaches from more than 50 countries visited the Western Theater Command from Monday to Wednesday, the Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday.

During the trip, which was organized by the ministry, military attaches were briefed on the situation of the theater command and the economic and social development of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

They also visited a special operation brigade of ground forces and the areas devasted by the magnitude 8 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, said the ministry.

The attaches praised Chinese soldiers for their professional competence and high morale, and were impressed by the post-quake reconstruction of the devasted areas.

The three-day tour enabled them to witness the progress made in the development of the western region and increased communication with Chinese military, said the attaches. Enditem
