KUNMING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province arrested two people for trafficking 32.5 kg of suspected methamphetamine, local authorities said Wednesday.

According to the Funing County police, a woman was reported to be selling drugs in Ruili city on April 21. A task force was soon set up to investigate the case. Two suspects were arrested on May 3, and drugs believed to be meth tablets were seized.

Further investigation is under way.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle known for its rampant drug production and trafficking. The amount of drugs seized in Yunnan accounts for 70 percent to 80 percent of all drugs seized across the country.

During the first four months of 2018, Yunnan's border control authorities have seized a record high of nearly 3.5 tonnes of drugs. Enditem
