Contento joins Dusseldorf from Girondins Bordeaux

BERLIN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Diego Contento has agreed on a free transfer to newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf from French outfit Girondins Bordeaux, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.
Dusseldorf have strengthened their defence with the signing of left back Diego Contento whose term expires in June 2020.
"We have managed to sign with Diego Contento an attacking as well as defensive strong defender. Thanks to his experience, he knows exactly what is important in the Bundesliga. I am delighted that he joins us," Dusseldorf coach Friedhelm Funkel said.
Contento is a home-grown Bayern Munich defender who played from 1995 until 2014 for the German record champions. In 2014, the 28-year-old joined Ligue 1 club Girondins Bordeaux where he scored twice in 78 appearances.
"I am really looking forward to my new task at Dusseldorf. When I came to Dusseldorf and saw the stadium I was already excited. Our goal is of course to establish Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga," Contento said.
Fortuna Dusseldorf earned their promotion to Germany's top flight after topping the standings in the second division. It will be their 24th season in the Bundesliga. Enditem
