Bulgaria to spend nearly 1 bln USD to improve water, sewerage infrastructure

SOFIA, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria would invest 1.59 billion BGN (962 million U.S. dollars) in the construction or upgrade of water supply and sewerage facilities in 51 settlements, a minister said here on Tuesday.

Nikolay Nankov, the country's Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, said at a conference that nearly 1,300 km of water and sewerage pipelines would be built or upgraded with the money provided under the Operational Programme Environment 2014-2020.

Meanwhile, two sewage treatment plants and a drinking water treatment plant would be built, he said.

In addition, 15 sewage treatment plants, a drinking water treatment plant and 146 pumping stations would be reconstructed, according to Nankov.

The minister stressed that the water supply and sewerage is vital for the country. Enditem
