BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed mixed Tuesday as major indices turned lackluster after a two-day gaining streak.
Both main board indices opened lower. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended higher, but only with a slight increase of 0.02 percent to hit 3,214.35 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed flat at 10,765.81 points.
Combined turnover on the two bourses went down to 438.2 billion yuan (about 68.68 billion U.S. dollars) from 461.2 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed marginally lower Tuesday as investors opted to secure profits following the benchmark Nikkei stock index's three-day winning streak.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended lost 42.03 points, or 0.18 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,960.34.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. meanwhile, fell 4.18 points, or 0.23 percent, lower at 1,809.57.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 0.14 percent or 5.05 points to close at 3,543.18.
A total of 1.06 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 894.9 billion Singapore dollars (about 668.8 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on positive note Tuesday. The market continued to be rangebound as investors closely monitor earnings season, and the movement in oil prices and rupee.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,845.03 down 8.55 points or 0.46 percent, and the Emas was at 12,844.59 down 35.71 points or 0.28 percent.
Turnover decreased to 2.36 billion shares valued at 2.74 billion ringgit Malaysia (691.91 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.78 billion shares valued at 3.05 billion ringgit Malaysia (768.26 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 116.72 points on Tuesday, down 2.94 points or 2.46 percent against the previous trading session.
About 61.167 million shares worth some 836.787 billion Vietnamese dong (some 37 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, an increase of 78.1 percent in volume and 64.6 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 985.91 points on Tuesday, down 29.07 points, or 2.86 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 180.486 million shares worth 5.216 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (230.86 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.
