Indian gov't investigates Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala state

NEW DELHI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- India's Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Monday directed a multi-disciplinary team from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) to the southern state of Kerala amid rising number of cases and reported deaths related to the Nipah virus.

So far more than 10 deaths have been reported due to the virus outbreak, while many have been admitted in hospitals.

According to an official in the health ministry, the minister also assured all support to the state government to combat the outbreak.

The team directed to go to Kerala included NCDC Director Dr Sujeet K. Singh, NCDC's head of Epidemiology department Dr S.K. Jain, among others. Enditem
