Tokyo stocks advance in morning on receding trade concerns

TOKYO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Monday morning on easing trade concerns following news that the United States and China would avoid sweeping trade tariffs for the time being in favor of ongoing talks towards a wider trade agreement.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 112.18 points, or 0.49 percent, from Friday to 23,042.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 3.59 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,818.84.

Glass and ceramics product, machinery, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
