BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China welcomes the positive progress made by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States in preparing for the meeting between the two leaders, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday.

Spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks in response to a question regarding the upcoming DPRK-U.S. summit in Singapore on June 12.

"The Chinese side expects the meeting to achieve positive outcomes, to take an important step in promoting denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, in resolving the Korean Peninsula issue politically, as well as in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region," Geng said. Enditem
