World Health Assembly to unveil plan to benefit 3 bln people

GENEVA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Assembly (WHA) kicked off here Monday and is expected to unveil a plan aiming to benefit three billion people worldwide for the next five years with better health care and well-being.

The plan, titled 13th General Program of Work, will be reviewed and passed Monday to guide the work of the World Health Organization (WHO) from 2019 to 2023.

The plan sets three strategic priorities to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, namely, to help one billion people benefit from universal health coverage; better protect one billion people from health emergencies; and to ensure that one billion people enjoy better health and well-being.

The 71st annual WHA, from Monday to Saturday, is a gathering of nearly 4,000 delegates from the WHO's 194 member states and partner organizations. The assembly is the WHO's highest decision-making body and set the organization's policy. Enditem
