Over 4 mln people affected by conflict in E. Ukraine: official

KIEV, May 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 4.4 million people were affected by the conflict in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, a senior Ukrainian parliament official said on Thursday.

Iryna Gerashchenko, first vice speaker of parliament, gave the figure to foreign experts, according to a statement by the parliament.

Gerashchenko also said the four-year confrontation between government troops and pro-independence rebels had left over 300 people missing.

The violence in eastern Ukraine, raging since April 2014, has claimed some 10,000 lives, injured about 24,000 people and made about 2 million others homeless.

According to the United Nations, the conflict has also left some 3.4 million Ukrainians in need of humanitarian assistance. Enditem
