Police seize ivory products in SW China's Yunnan

Xinhua,May 10, 2018 Adjust font size:

KUNMING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Police have seized 351 suspected ivory products in southwest China's Yunnan Province, the local public security bureau said Thursday.

The products were seized during a campaign launched in February in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Deqen targeting illegal ivory trade. A total of 241 police officers were mobilized to inspect local tourist attractions, bird and flower markets and antique craft shops.

Among the confiscated products, mostly bracelets while others including necklaces and pendants, 31 have been confirmed as ivory ones, according to the public security bureau of Deqen.

China has banned ivory trade and commercial processing as part of its commitment to protecting wild animals. Enditem
