SHIJIAZHUANG, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Senior legislator Wang Chen called on the country's lawmakers to improve legislation to provide more powerful legal support for reform and opening up.

Wang, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, made the remarks during his trip to north China's Hebei Province from Monday to Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for pushing forward reform under the rule of law, and improving rule of law during the process of reform.

The legislation work should meet the need of reform, and play its role in guiding, promoting, standardizing and guaranteeing the reform, said Wang.

He visited various departments and areas, including the budget inquiry office of the provincial people's congress, administrative approval office of Shijiazhuang, Hebei provincial capital, and a citizen service center in Xiongan New Area.

Wang also stressed legislation work in Xiongan to support reform and opening up in the new area.

China published the master development plan for Xiongan New Area in late April. Xiongan is another new area of "national significance" following the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area. Enditem
