Jordan says following up closely on Iran's nuclear deal development

Xinhua,May 10, 2018 Adjust font size:

AMMAN, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Wednesday said it was following up closely on developments related to Iran's nuclear deal after U.S. exit from it.

Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said Jordan's historic stance calls for supporting all efforts to end nuclear proliferation and mass destruction weapons from the Middle East and the entire world.

He added that it is important to guarantee that Iran abides by the agreement and stops any nuclear activities.

The minister said Iran should respond to the U.S. calls for negotiations, and efforts are needed to entrench stability and security in the region and the world.

Jordan will continue to support all efforts that seek to enhance coordination and cooperation among the international community, the minister added.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his country would exit the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, adding that the highest level of sanctions would be imposed on the Islamic republic.

The unilateral move by the United States runs contrary to a deal struck by Trump's predecessor Barack Obama.

The deal, reached between Iran and six powers including Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States in 2015, saw heavy economic sanctions slapped on Tehran lifted in exchange for its curbing of nuclear activities. Enditem
