MADRID, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Spain's industrial production dropped by 3.6 percent year on year in March, according to the Index of Industrial Production (IPI) published on Wednesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The figure was 6.4 percent lower than that of February when the country's industrial production had increased by 2.8 percent year-on-year.

According to the INE, production of consumer goods fell by 6.1 percent in March year-on-year, with production of durable consumer goods plummeting by 12.5 percent and production of non-durable consumer goods dropping by 5.5 percent.

Production of capital goods decreased by 6.3 percent, the INE said, production of intermediate goods fell by 6 percent while production of energy rose by 7.7 percent.

Spain's industrial production had been rising for ten consecutive months on a year-on-year basis before March, a month when production traditionally falls due to the Easter period. Enditem
