JAKARTA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Militants killed five members of an anti-terror squad and is taking another hostage in a prison riot in the outskirts of the capital Jakarta, police said on Wednesday.

One terrorist was also killed in the incident that broke out since Tuesday night, national police spokesman Brigadier Gen. Muhammad Iqbal said.

The spokesman said the militants seized all weapons owned by the five police personnel whom they killed.

The police are attempting to conduct a negotiation with the militants and threatened to take a stern legal action should they reject, he said.

"The incident leaves five our police fellows dead. We had to shot dead one terrorist who was resisting," Iqbal told reporters.

The riot took place in one of the prison blocks and the situation is under control, he said, adding that the prison had 130 inmates.

The incident was triggered by the objection of the prisoners' requirements on food, the spokesman said.

Security around the prison was boosted and civilians were not allowed to get close to the entrance, according to the police. Enditem
