Guangzhou to intensify exchanges with Southeast Asian cities

GUANGZHOU, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The southern metropolis of Guangzhou in Guangdong Province will intensify exchanges with cities in Southeast Asia, authorities said Wednesday.

There will be 150 international air routes linking Guangzhou with other international cities by 2020, the Guangzhou government said in a plan.

A new terminal and two additional runways will be built at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, while a second airport is being considered, according to the plan.

It is estimated that 23 percent of passengers at the airport will be international ones by 2020.

Guangzhou hopes to build a "four-hour air transportation system" between itself and Southeast Asian cities, and a "12-hour transportation system" with other major cities in the world. Enditem
