BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed slightly lower Wednesday, despite strong performances of energy shares.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.07 percent to close at 3,159.15, and the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.17 percent lower at 10,689.07.
Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 382.6 billion yuan (about 60 billion U.S. dollars), down from 443.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as investors were concerned about the ramifications of U.S. President Donald Trump deciding to withdraw the United States from the Iran nuclear deal.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 99.81 points, or 0.44 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 22,408.88.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.91 points, or 0.39 percent, to finish at 1,772.91

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 133.33 points, or 0.44 percent, to 30,536.14 points on Wednesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 30,346.62 and 30,568.76. Turnover totaled 84.28 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.74 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Wednesday. The market has gathered some strength now, with the Sensex rising over 100 points.
A turnaround in banking names has brought about this rise in the market, which was already witnessing support from metals and IT names.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 35,319.35, 103.03 point or 0.29 percent up compared to its previous close at 35,216.32.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 123.86 points on Wednesday, down 1.47 points or 1.17 percent against the previous trading session.
About 43.342 million shares worth some 598.904 billion Vietnamese dong (some 26.5 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 1.6 percent in volume and 7.4 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,056.97 points on Wednesday, down 3.48 points, or 0.33 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 161.331 million shares worth 5.174 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (229.27 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.
VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 1,046.39 points, down 1.44 points or 0.14 percent.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed higher on Wednesday, despite fairly flat overseas leads and financial stocks weighed down by a slide in major lender Commonwealth Bank's stocks.
At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 stock index was up 16.1 points or 0.26 percent at 6,108, while the broader All Ordinaries index added 21.2 points or 0.34 percent at 6,204.4.
