Dollar inches up to upper 109 yen on gains in U.S. Treasury yields

TOKYO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar climbed to the upper 109 yen zone Wednesday in Tokyo on higher U.S. Treasury yields.

At 5 p.m. local time, the dollar was quoted at 109.71-72 yen compared with 109.08-18 yen in New York and 108.92-94 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Tuesday. It moved between 109.01 yen and 109.79 yen during the day.

The euro fetched 1.1838-1839 dollars and 129.88-92 yen against 1.1859-1869 dollars and 129.44-54 yen in New York and 1.1916-1917 dollars and 129.79-83 yen in Tokyo late Tuesday afternoon. Enditem
