PUL-E-KHURI, Afghanistan, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Militants loyal to the Taliban outfit have overrun Tala-o-Barfak district in the northern Baghlan province, a local official said Wednesday.

"Taliban rebels after fierce fighting were able to enter the district headquarters late Tuesday night," the official told Xinhua, but he refused to be identified, saying authorized officials would talk to media.

Meanwhile, Baghlan provincial governor Abdul Hai Nemati in talks with reporters said the short sentence, "Tala-o-Barfak collapsed late night," adding he has no information about casualties.

Mohammad Zarif Zarif, a member of the provincial council, has confirmed that dozens of militants and security personnel had been killed in fighting for control of Tala-o-Barfak district on Tuesday which lasted four hours. Enditem
