Women's football tournament for central-eastern Africa postponed over funding

KIGALI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The 2018 Women Challenge Cup of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) due to start this Saturday in Rwanda has been postponed over funding.

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) said in a statement Tuesday that the delay is due to the unavailability of hosting funds initially meant to be sent to FERWAFA.

FERWAFA has not received funds to host the 10-day tournament from CECAFA as agreed in April despite repeated correspondences and calls to CECAFA Secretariat, it said.

The tournament was supposed to bring together teams from eight countries: Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Enditem
