British stocks down 0.02 pct Tuesday

LONDON, May 8 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Tuesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down 1.39 points or 0.02 percent at 7,565.75 points.

Shire, a global specialty biopharmaceutical company, soared 4.63 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Ashtead Group and International Consolidated Airlines Group rose by 3.40 percent and 3.27 percent, respectively.

Fresnillo, the international mining group, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 2.44 percent. British American Tobacco, the British multinational tobacco company, dropped 2.03 percent. J Sainsbury, a British supermarkets chain, dropped 1.96 percent. Enditem
