BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Brunei government has set maximum prices for several food items in view of the upcoming Ramadhan season from May to June.

According to a press release on Tuesday, the selected food items include whole chicken, eggs, butter, cream milk, flour and some other commonly used food ingredients.

The revised ceiling prices of these selected food items will come into effect on the first day of Ramadhan. Its objective is to control the prices of food items that are used as the main ingredients of food prepared during the Muslim festive season, according to the Department of Economic Planning and Development at Prime Minister's Office and the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

The initiative is also hoped to assist low income earners in their preparation for the upcoming Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Enditem
