Over 50 children hospitalized due to suspected poisoning in Ukraine

KIEV, May 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 51 children and two teachers were sent to hospital due to a case of suspected poisoning in the city of Cherkassy in central Ukraine, the State Service for Emergencies said Tuesday in a statement.

According to the statement, those sickened showed such symptoms as vomiting, dizziness and headache during the school gathering, which brought together more than 400 people. Fifteen children aged between seven and 15 years old lost consciousness during the gathering.

Eleven children are currently undergoing treatment in intensive care. Other affected are hospitalized in satisfactory condition.

Local authorities have set up a special commission to establish what caused the alleged poisoning.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and acting Health Minister Uliana Suprun will visit Cherkassy. Enditem
