SINGAPORE, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean President Halimah Yacob on Monday called for developing a vibrant economy and forging a caring and inclusive society in the city-state.

Speaking at the opening of the second session of the 13th parliament, she set out tasks for the government during the second half of the term and beyond.

The president outlined five priorities: securing a place in the world for Singapore, building a world-class city, developing a vibrant economy, forging a caring and inclusive society and nurturing a distinct Singapore identity.

Singapore has recorded a steady economic growth and achieved an upgraded infrastructure, Halimah said, adding that Singapore will continue to uphold free trade.

The government should make Singapore into an endearing home for its people, the president said. Enditem
