BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher Monday on better-than-expected economic data.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 1.48 percent, at 3,136.64. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.92 percent higher at 10,626.51.
Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 421.9 billion yuan (about 66.4 billion U.S. dollars), up from 360 billion yuan the previous trading day.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Monday. Benchmark indices continued to trade higher from the morning session driven by gains in PSU Banks.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 35,208.14, 292.76 point or 0.84 percent up compared to its previous close at 34,915.38.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved down 0.07 points, or 0.00 percent to close at 1,779.80 points.
Some 9.98 billion shares worth 44.92 billion baht (about 1.42 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Monday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,828.20 down 13.63 points or 0.74 percent, and the Emas was at 12,753.01 down 106.28 points or 0.83 percent.
Turnover increased to 1.92 billion shares valued at 2.10 billion ringgit Malaysia (532.99 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.61 billion shares valued at 2.12 billion ringgit Malaysia (539.44 million U.S. dollars) on last Friday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) wend down 0.35 percent or 12.52 points to close at 3532.86.
A total of 2.18 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.06 billion Singapore dollars (about 791.47 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 231 to 170.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 67.76 points, or 0.23 percent, to 29,994.26 points on Monday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,791.87 and 30,138.33. Turnover totaled 95.49 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 12.17 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.17 percent lower on Monday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 12.91 points to 7533.28. The all-share index went down by 3.69 points, or 0.08 percent, to 4601.61.
Trading volume reached 1.10 billion shares worth 5.90 billion pesos (114.16 million U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed essentially flat Monday as earlier lost ground was recovered as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar spurred buying in later trade.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 5.62 points, or 0.03 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,467.16.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 1.66 points, or 0.09 percent, at 1,773.18.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 1,062.26 points on Monday, up 35.46 points, or 3.45 percent, against last Friday's closing session.
About 155.126 million shares worth 4.928 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (218.47 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.
VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 1,048.53 points, up 37.14 points or 3.67 percent.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 21.60 points or 0.36 percent at 6,084.50, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 20.20 points or 0.33 percent at 6,175.60.
