Tokyo stocks close flat as buying on weak yen negates earlier decline

Xinhua,May 07, 2018 Adjust font size:

TOKYO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed essentially flat Monday as earlier lost ground was recovered as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar spurred buying in later trade.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 5.62 points, or 0.03 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,467.16.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 1.66 points, or 0.09 percent, at 1,773.18.

Securities and insurance issues comprised notable decliners, while oil and coal products, and electric machinery-linked issues led those that gained the most by the close of play.

Markets here were closed Thursday and Friday for national holidays. Enditem
