Death toll from landslide in Myanmar's northern state rises to 17

YANGON, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Five more people were killed and three more others injured in Friday's landslide in Hpakant mining region, in Myanmar's northern Kachin state, bringing the death toll to 17 and the injured to 11, a release from the Home Affairs Ministry said on Saturday.

The 60.9-meter high spoil tip collapsed near a worksite owned by Kyauk Myat Shwe Pyi Company in Hway Khar village before dawn.

Meanwhile, one people were killed in a landslide near a jade mine in the same village due to the collapse of spoil and stone tip in April this year. Enditem
