UAE calls for action plan to ensure return of Rohingya

DUBAI, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday urged safe return of the Rohingya refugees, according to a UAE senior official.

Anwar Gargash, the UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, tweeted that the plight of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh "requires an effective plan of action that includes their return, identity and security, and guarantees a solution to their tragedy."

The UAE top diplomat said the efforts of the UAE to alleviate the suffering of the Rohingya "have included the provision of treatment for more than 132,000 refugees, including 78,000 women and children residing in the Kukes Bazar camp in Bangladesh."

More than 670,000 Muslim Rohingya refugees have fled northern Rakhine State into Bangladesh since Aug. 25, 2017 when Rohingya activists allegedly carried out a deadly attack on security posts, prompting alleged retribution by Myanmar forces. Enditem
