Ethiopian runner Gebreslasea sets course record at Yellow River Estuary Marathon

DONGYING, China, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian runner Letebrhan Haylay Gebreslasea defended her title successfully by setting the women's course record with two hours, 24 minutes and 47 seconds at the Yellow River Estuary Marathon, IAAF Gold Label Road Race in the Chinese city of Dongying on Saturday.

It was Gebreslasea's second appearance in Dongying. The 27-year-old kept a sole lead in the final five kilometres and won the title in 2:24:47, which renewed the course record of 2:25:01 set by herself last year. Her compatriot Yebrgual Melese Arage grabbed the silver in 2:27:47. The bronze went to Kenyan Peris Jerono in 2:28:27.

Kenyan Joel Kemboi Kimurer finished first in the men's field in two hours, 13 minutes and 28 seconds. The runner-up was Kenya's Samuel Kiplimo Kosgei in 2:13:44. Ethiopian Abayneh Ayele Woldegiorgis finished third in 2:13:47. Enditem
