Canadian stock market rising

TORONTO, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Canada's main stock index surged more than 100 points Friday due to broad-based advance led by the industrials sector.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index advanced 107.93 points, or 0.69 percent, to 15,729.40.

The Canadian dollar was trading at 0.77.75 U.S. dollar, unchanged from Thursday.

The energy group rose 1.32 points, or 0.67 percent, while the financials sector climbed 1.09 points, or 0.37 percent.

Manulife Financial Corp rose 1.35 percent to 24.09 Canadian dollars.

Crescent Point Energy fell 1.93 percent to 10.18 Canadian dollars.

Cenovus Energy Inc. added 0.23 percent to 13.02 Canadian dollars.

Baytex Energy Corp. fell 3.31 percent to 5.55 Canadian dollars.

Athabasca Oil Corp. jumped 7.05 percent to 1.67 Canadian dollars. Enditem
