Chicago launches manhunt for suspect shooting federal agent

CHICAGO, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Law enforcement agencies in Chicago have launched a manhunt for the suspect who shot a federal agent early Friday morning.

The undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was working on a joint mission with other agencies to crack down on gun violence in Chicago when he was apparently ambushed and shot in the face.

The seriously wounded ATF agent was rushed to hospital and reportedly in stable condition.

Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson pledged at an afternoon news conference that they will make an all-out effort to bring the suspect to justice.

"We will find you," he vowed.

Various authorities have offered a total of more than 60,000 U.S. dollars in reward for any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.

In the past two years, gun-violence-plagued Chicago has stepped up efforts to fight increasing crimes, by recruiting more policemen and using new technologies. Enditem
