TUNIS, May 4 (Xinhua) -- A terrorist was shot dead and several others wounded in an operation carried out by special units of National Guard on Birinou Mountain in Kasserine province in central-western Tunisia, announced the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior on Friday.

The operation was launched in the heights of Kasserine, in the hunt for other members of an armed terrorist group.

Since 2011, the province of Kasserine, located near the border with Algeria, is known to be the main stronghold of extremist armed elements.

In early April, another terrorist was shot dead by the Special Forces of the National Guard, and a second one was captured alive after an exchange of gunfire in Kasserine. Enditem
