Majority of French have negative view of Macron's first year in office: survey

Xinhua,May 04, 2018 Adjust font size:

PARIS, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Some 57 percent of those surveyed have a negative view of Emmanuel Macron's first year at the Elysee Palace, a BVA poll showed Friday.

Macron's popularity hit a setback a year into his five-year mandate as controversy over reforms and a tense social climate are taking a toll, according to the poll, conducted on April 18-19 among 1,011 people.

Some 43 surveyed in April were satisfied with Macron's work, down by 19 percentage points compared to the start of his term in May 2017, according to the pollster's data.

The BVA also found that although people mostly approve of the details of Macron's reform measures, eight out of 10 respondents see his economic actions as having no positive impact on their lives.

Meanwhile, a majority supported a reform of the education system and some 78 percent agree with the president's proposal to streamline the parliament and various government institutions. Enditem
