Interactive travel map launched in Cuba

HAVANA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- An interactive online travel map was launched Thursday at a tourism fair in Cuba to promote tourism.

The website CubaMaps, with updated data and references on the main scenic spots in Cuba, was presented at the 38th International Tourism Fair held in the northern province of Villa Clara, about 400 km east of Havana.

The information on the map was provided by official Cuban institutions, said Oscar Gonzalez, director of the National Tourist Information Office (INFOTUR), who has led a team to develop the digital map over the past two years.

Gonzalez, who has devoted himself to the development of Cuba's tourism industry for years, added that the map offers accurate information about hotels, restaurants, rent-car centers and currency exchange offices.

The app for CubaMaps could also be accessed through cellphone devices with the Android operating system, which allows the calculation of both the distance and the time it takes to travel from a certain point to another through different means of transport.

The website and the app have Spanish, English, French and German versions.

Cuba's tourist boom continued last year with 4.7 million foreign tourist arrivals, generating half a million jobs. Enditem
