NEW YORK/SAN FRANCISCO, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The Committee of 100 (C100), a prominent Chinese American group, will explore the most pressing issues on U.S.-China trade relations and China's Belt and Road Initiative in panel discussions during its upcoming annual conference, organizers said on Wednesday.

An estimated 500 leaders and experts in government, business, technology, academia, and media are expected to attend the C100 2018 Annual Conference, the premier forum on U.S.-China relations and Chinese-American advancement.

With the theme "Silicon Valley: Bridge Between the United States and China," the conference scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco will also focus on technology entrepreneurism, artificial intelligence, and the role of Silicon Valley and Chinese-Americans as a bridge between the two countries.

"As we all know this is a historic moment for U.S.-China relationship," said Charlie Woo, C100 Public Policy Committee Chair at a phone media briefing.

In view of "the recent headlines in terms of trade war, tariffs, technology and all the disputes between our two countries," Woo said, the two-day conference will be dedicated to "U.S.-China relationship, the challenges we face in recent years as well as technology in terms of cooperation and competition" in keynote speeches, panel discussions and fireside chats.

Chas Freeman, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense, Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Gary Locke, former U.S. Ambassador to China, among others, are expected to deliver keynote speeches, Woo said.

Fei-Fei Li, Chief Scientist of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Google Cloud, and Jerry Yang, Co-Founder and former CEO of Yahoo, will join a fireside chat on the state of AI technology advancement and its long-term implications in the U.S.-China relationship, according to Woo.

The New York-based C100 is a non-profit, non-partisan organization of prominent Chinese-Americans in business, government, academia, and the arts. Founded in 1990 by world renowned architect I.M. Pei and internationally acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma, among others, the group is committed to the twin missions of promoting full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life, and encouraging constructive relations between the two peoples.
