Palestinian National Council elects President Abbas as Palestine Liberation Organization chairman

RAMALLAH, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian National Council (PNC), or the parliament of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), elected a new PLO executive committee and President Mahmoud Abbas as the PLO chairman, officials said early Friday.
The PNC convened Monday in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
It is the first PNC meeting since 2009, which aims to discuss the Palestinian ties with Israel and the United States, as well as the internal Palestinian situation. Enditem
